> ANNUAL "SPRING INTO ACTION" 2 DAY CLINIC
20th & Sunday 21st October 2017. (Labour
& Flatwork Lessons with Greg and Diana Jamieson.
This was going to be a 3 day clinic, due to labour weekend
we have now made it 2 days only, Saturday and Sunday.
Our annual Spring Clinic and Camp is a fantastic opportunity
to help kick-start your training, riding and motivation
ready for the coming summer season.
Jumping Lessons (from beginner groups to advanced high level
competitors) and Flatwork Lessons are available. All ages
and levels welcome!
Most of our general clinics like this have about half adults
and half young riders attend, riders are all grouped into
similar age and level for group lessons of 2 - 6 riders
at a time.
Our popular multi-day clinics offer progressive lessons
in your chosen lesson type - choose from a 2 day course
in either Jumping or Flatwork or Flatwork Progressing To
Jumping. By attending consecutive days in a row of lessons
we will help you build up and gain knowledge, confidence,
technique and understanding quietly and consistently, resulting
in you putting it all together by the final day and completing
a full jumping course or flatwork test with your new skills.
The results from these multi-day clinics are extremely exciting
to watch and rewarding to be a part of as it all comes together
for the horses and riders at the end of their clinic.
people find doing 1 lesson per day is plenty but if you
want to do extra lessons on a different course (eg you have
booked for a 2 day Jumping course but would also like to
do a single Flatwork lesson as well) please ask us first
to check room and group suitability. Maximum 4 lessons total
of your own lesson time you can also learn so much from
watching other lessons and supporting your fellow riders,
riding around our fun Derby/low level X-Country course (weather
dependant), enjoy the gorgeous bush and river campsite setting,
explore the surroundings and local activities such as bush
walks and Rail Trail, and meet new like-minded people around
family and friends are welcome to join you onsite and make
a fun camping holiday out of it. Fees are all listed on
the info flyer and booking form below.
of our general riding clinics such as this are booked on
a "first in, first served" basis with limited
numbers per clinic, early bookings are advised to avoid
disappointment due to popularity!)

PRACTICAL HORSEMANSHIP GROUNDWORK LESSON DAYS
27th & Sunday 28th October
Horsemanship Groundwork Lesson Days with Diana Jamieson
at Chester Farm. Come for one or both days.
- Are you frustrated with not having enough time in your
day to be able to do anything productive with your horse
or perhaps your horse has been out of work and you aren't
sure how to get him safely ready to ride again?
- Is your horse stiff or resistant to ride on one side or
the other, won't go forward, too flightly and too dull,
lacks concentration or doesn't seem to understand/react
to your rein and leg aids properly?
- Have you got a young horse (or older with a few tricks
up their sleeve!) that you've been having some trouble handling
or riding in certain situations?
- Are your kids ponies pushy and walking all over you or
being problematic under saddle, but you don't know where
to start to help out?
- Would you like to learn some simple effective skills
to help you feel safer, more in control, more aware of what
your horse is telling you and begin to develop a better
communication, understanding and bond with your horse for
improved everyday handling, riding and general performance?
"Practical Horsemanship Groundwork" lesson days are
suitable for all ages and levels horse and rider.
Lessons" are ideal for absolute beginners new to groundwork/horsemanship
or who have done a little bit either here or elsewhere,
and for anyone who is struggling to get a good response
/ coordination / understanding / consistent success with
our Chester Farm Level 1 foundation exercises. If you have
attended groundwork lessons here at Chester Farm before
you will most probably have our Level 1 exercise sheets
already so will understand what I mean! (If you haven't
been to our lessons before I suggest you do the Introductory
lesson first unless you feel very confident with what you
are doing because the Level 1 basics are all the VITAL foundation
required to progress with all other more advanced exercises).
Advanced / Level 2 Lessons are for people who already have
good knowledge of the basic groundwork core essential skills
meaning you can generally move your horse as, where and
when asked, and for those who have been practising our Chester
Farm Foundation Level 1 exercises for awhile now and ready
to progress with some new exercises and challenges! Level
2 uses all the foundation skills you've learnt and applies
them into fun and different exercises to test you and your
horse some more.
is not just something for beginners or low-level riders
to do, it offers valuable exercises, understanding and tools
for EVERY horse owner and rider whether you are just starting
out through to advanced level experienced performers, vital
skills for breeders handling young horses, assisting with
problem horses etc etc. Groundwork helps your horse co-ordinate
and understand how to use his body at the same time encouraging
relaxation, while also doing the same for you and learning
to recognise what your horse is thinking through his body
language and movement. The exercises we do in these lessons
seek the same engagement, softness, rhythm etc that we want
from our horse when we ride so offer an obvious benefit
and progression. (Note: no riding will be done during these
particular lesson days however).
a Saturday lesson only or stay the night and make further
progress on Sunday to make a fun, informative weekend out
of it! Social group dinner on Saturday night at local pub
can also be organised if enough people interested.
that is required is a good fitting rope halter for your
horse/pony, a long training lead rope of approx 12ft is
ideal (I recommend the Roma horsemanship training lead or
similar that is reasonably thick and has some decent weight
to it, a lunge rope is ok if it is all you have), and your
positive attitude to enjoying a fun day out learning new
things with your horse! If you have a horsemanship training
stick or similar you want to bring also welcome.
